Find businesses whose reviews have gone stale

A good rating from two years ago is not the same as a good rating this month. Review history is recorded on every business you find, so you can see whose momentum has stopped.

The opportunity

Review count is a vanity number. Review velocity is a health check. A business at four stars that has not had a new review in eight months is losing to a competitor collecting two a week, and the owner usually has not noticed.

Why most lead tools miss this

Every other tool reads the review count once, today. A count tells you nothing about direction. Knowing that a business has stopped collecting reviews requires having watched it before now.

How it works

  1. 1Search a market the normal way, for example by review count or reply rate.
  2. 2Every search records what each business looked like on that day.
  3. 3That history compounds passively, so the record deepens whether or not you searched last week.
  4. 4Each prospect carries its review history, so you can see whether the flow has slowed or stopped.

Frequently asked questions

What are stale reviews?

Reviews that have stopped arriving. The business may still show a healthy total and a good average, but the most recent review is months old, which means the flow that produced that average has dried up.

Why can review velocity not simply be looked up?

Because a listing shows you a total and an average as of right now. Velocity is the change between two points in time, so it can only be measured by something that recorded the business before today.

Why is a slowing review flow a good reason to call?

It is specific, recent and verifiable, and it is falling behind a competitor the owner already knows about. That is a far sharper opening than telling them their online presence could be better.

How far back does the history go?

It starts when a business is first scored and deepens with every search that touches it. The record grows passively over time rather than needing to be requested.

Can I search directly for businesses with stale reviews?

Not as a filter on its own. You search the market on something like review count or reply rate, and the review history comes attached to every prospect that comes back, so you can see which ones have stopped collecting reviews.
